Long Ago And Far Away

by Katherine U. Bates

Long ago, and far away / Long ago, and far away /Long ago, and far away / Long ago, and far away

Wild strawberries, tiny and sweet / June to September, always in bare feet / Lived down a dirt road, not a city street / Long ago, and far away

Hold me close, and hug me tight / Tuck me in, with a kiss each night / I wish I may and I wish I might / Long ago, and far away

Bright fanfare, day lily’s humble horn / Every small wavelet jeweled with the morn / Oh my dear one, please don’t be forlorn / You can still see long ago, and far away

In my childhood, I was free / Building forts and climbing trees / All these things are here inside of me / Long ago, and far away

Sweet sunny places, safely tucked away / Memory transports over wind or storm or gray / In my bones – come whatever may – / there’s long ago, and far away

Long ago, and far away / Long ago, and far away /Long ago, and far away / Long ago, and far away
